Are Blondies the Same as Brownies?

Blondies and brownies are both bar based confections that are quick and easy to make but with distinct differences. Brownies signature difference is chocolate throughout the batter instead of just in chocolate chip form and are always a chocolate based dessert. However, blondies are more vanilla forward and are not chocolate based. They usually have fix-ins that can include chocolate chips.

The Origin Of Blondies

Blondies are an American treat that actually came before today’s brownies. In fact they were originally called blonde brownies despite containing no chocolate. The term brownie came from the elfin characters of brownies from popular folk stories of the time. However, chocolate brownies were not invented until the early 1900’s while the first published “blonde brownie” recipe was in 1896. Read more about it here!

Strawberry Blondies Ingredients

  • Frozen Strawberries: I prefer frozen for this fruity bake because it’s easier to fold than fresh strawberries. Fresh strawberries tend to get mushed up during folding and thus deformed.
  • White chocolate chips: You can also use bars of white chocolate and then chop it up into white chocolate chunks.

Major Allergens Present: Gluten, dairy, eggs

Equipment Needed

  • 9 x 13″ Pan: Used to bake the blondies in. Alternatively you can bake in a cake pan or square pan, however, you may need to adjust the amount of batter.
  • No mixer needed for this dessert!

How to Make Strawberry Blondies:

What is a Strawberry Blondie? What is a Strawberry Blondie Made Out Of?

This white chocolate strawberry blondie recipe contains few ingredients, and my blondies are supposed to be gooey. While blondies can have a variety of different add-ins, these have white chocolate chips and strawberries to play up the spring baking season. This strawberry blondies recipe also uses brown butter to make them a little nutty without adding any nuts. Enjoy with an afternoon cup of tea.

Make the Strawberry Blondie Batter and Bake

So quick to mix up, start by browning half the butter first and melting the rest of the butter in that. Continue by mixing in the sugar followed by eggs and vanilla, and followed by the dry ingredients. Fold in loosely chopped frozen strawberries and white chocolate chips, and spread in your baking pan. Bake until a knife inserted comes out clean and rotate half way through baking. Wait until cooled completely before slicing this white chocolate strawberry blondie recipe. So easy!

Help Making Strawberry Blondies:

How to Brown Butter

  • Choose a medium sized pot for this financier recipe and larger if you multiply it. The butter will foam and rise in the pot, so if you choose a pot too small it may bubble right out.
  • Once it reaches the foaming stage, it will stop boiling and just brown. You will need to swirl the pan around to see the color beneath the foam. You are looking for a deep golden brown and a nutty aroma.
  • Remove from heat immediately and allow to cool completely before adding it. If you add it right away you could cook your batter before baking it. Also, definitely do not go for a spoon taste before cooling because that is hot oil!
  • Scrape all the browned bits from the bottom of the pan; that’s where all the yummy flavor is!

Enhancing This Strawberry Blondie Recipe:

  • Add a squeeze of lemon juice and some zest to make strawberry lemon blondies
  • Replace the white chocolate with dark for a chocolate covered strawberry vibe.
  • Fold in some sliced or slivered almonds to make this a nutty bake.

How to Store and Freeze Strawberry Blondies

  • Store strawberry blondies in a sealed container at room temperature for 5 days.
  • Freeze strawberry brownies tightly wrapped for up to 4 months.

Troubleshooting Strawberry Blondies:

  • My blondies sunk! They are underbaked! Sometimes using a cake tester to check will give you a false positive which is why I always use a knife since it has more surface area for unbaked batter to stick to. It also cane be hard to check with so many strawberries in there so stick the knife in a couple different places.

These strawberry white chocolate blondies were perfect! I didn’t have a 9×13 pan so I made them in a smaller dish and had to cook them longer. The recipe was simple and very easy to follow! I might even try splitting the frozen strawberries in half with frozen raspberries. Also, really liked the button where you could change the size batch! Definitely will make these again!
